At the heart of the PCHPI are the scientists who strive to understand HIV protein function and interactions at spatial atomic and cellular levels.  Using several structural methods (X-ray crystallography, solution NMR spectroscopy, solid-state NMR spectroscopy, cryo-Electron Microscopy and computational simulations), state-of-the-art imaging methodologies and biochemical approaches, the PCHPI project leaders and core directors work together, and with collaborators, to understand the temporal sequence of events that occur during viral maturation and after virus-cell fusion.
